I find a very powerful medicine called citalopram to be very effective in treating the anxiety which drives the fear that drives one to obsessions. It works with chemicals in the brain to balance out seratonin. There are side effects of course. I myself have experienced sexual side effects making me less desiring of sex.

I have found that I’ve also gained weight by taking this medication. However, this does not cure OCD, but honestly, it can make it easier. However, I beat my OCD without any drugs. I’ve taken other drugs like Lexapro and others in this class. I found citalopram to work the best for me personally. So what I would say to you is that once you find a medication that is right for you, then you should start learning some non-medicinal treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy and the medication should make it easier for you to expose yourself to your anxiety.

I would only recommend medications for those who have severe cases of OCD where they can’t function, such as go to work or to school or are affected by a type of OCD where it affects your breathing a lot. Just make sure that whatever you do, you consult your doctor before you do anything in this article, period.
